• The slide show feature has been thoroughly revamped and now includes the option to display the items in a folder you choose, including as many sub-folders as you specify, and sorted in the order and by the criterion you specify.
• You can now open the entire contents of a folder simply by dragging the folder onto SimpleImage's icon or onto any window already open in SimpleImage. If the folder contains at least two openable items, SimpleImage will ask you if you want to open the items or display them in a slide show.
• A new Open sub-menu now appears in every window's contextual menu, showing the folder the item is in and all the items in the folder that SimpleImage can open, arranged alphabetically (or by date created if the caps lock key is down). Choosing an item opens that item in SimpleImage.
• New "Open Next" and "Open Previous" commands (in the Special sub-menu) look in the folder containing the frontmost window's file and open the next or previous file in alphabetical order (or by date created if the caps lock key is down).
• A new floating Info palette shows detailed and dynamic information about the frontmost window, including file information, image and movie dimensions, mouse location, current movie time and playback rate, selection dimensions or duration, and transformations.
• When a Snapshot item can't be opened because the volume SimpleImage thinks it's on is not mounted, SimpleImage will now give you the option of searching for the item on all currently mounted disks. Previous versions only gave you the choice of inserting the disk or cancelling.
• The preferences dialog box has been redesigned to use a scrolling list of icons instead of tabs to switch between panes.
• The temporary memory cushion is now specified as a percentage of total installed RAM.
• The menu bar now automatically shows and hides itself as the mouse passes over it in full-screen view.
• The page up, page down, home and end keys are now correctly supported in the Open Snapshot and Reopen dialog boxes.
• Live scrolling is now supported on 68k Macs running Mac OS 8.
• Zooming rectangles are now shown when zooming and transforming full-screen items, and the new dimensions of a freshly zoomed or transformed full-screen image are momentarily framed while the image's offscreen bitmap is recalculated.
• You can now force SimpleImage to limit offscreen bitmaps to 16 bits.
• You can now disable the new Navigation Services dialog boxes used in Mac OS 8.5.
Bug fixes:
• Fixed a longstanding bug which could cause random crashiness after switching a movie into or out of full-screen view.
• All previous versions sometimes failed to optimize an image for speedy display because of a flaw in SimpleImage's memory-handling routines. This has been fixed.
• Rotating a movie 360 degrees in 90-degree increments no longer confuses SimpleImage.
• Fixed a bug introduced in version 1.5 which could cause windows to misbehave (active windows appearing behind inactive windows and other general yuckiness) after clicking in the volume slider of a movie.
• Fixed a bug that caused crashes while switching tabs in the preferences dialog box on 68k Macs running Mac OS 8.

•The 'Print Documents' Apple Event is now correctly supported.
•You can now choose whether SimpleImage opens scroll bar view windows at 100% or not.

•You can now specify the size of SimpleImage's temporary memory cushion. Previous versions of SimpleImage maintained a cushion of 512k -- that is, it wouldn't attempt to allocate any temporary memory if there was less than 512k available. You can now set the cushion to between 1 and 6 megabytes.

•Fixed a bug which could very occasionally cause a newly opened window to incorrectly identify itself as a duplicate of another window.
•The "Save Movie" dialog box now correctly reports the estimated file size of large movies.
•Fixed a bug which could cause the icon for MPEG movies to fail to show up in the Window and Reopen menus. (SimpleImage 1.6 added the ability to open MPEG movies that have been assigned the type code 'MPG ', but it didn't map the code to the correct icon.)
•The 'MPG ' type code is now in SimpleImage's 'kind' resource, so MPEG movies with this code will open correctly. (You may need to rebuild your desktop.)
•The 'kind' string that the Finder displays for .avi movies is now "AVI movie" instead of "Video for Windows movie."
